Become a CASA

Become a CASA in 5 Easy Steps

Now accepting applications!

You do not need any special skills to be a CASA volunteer. You just need desire to help a child, a valid driver's license, be at least 21, clear a background check, computer skills and the ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Step 1: Attend a monthly Information Session. Check out our calendar for the next scheduled Information Session. You can also call (609) 601-7800 or email Debbie Giacomoni for more information.

Step 2: Apply, via an online application, to be accepted into training.

Step 3: Complete all of your pre-training paperwork, including an interview and background check.

Step 4: Sign-up for the next training session.

About five times per year, CASA for Children offers a 30-hour training that shows citizen volunteers how to advocate for the best interest of children living in foster care. Training times vary from day to evening and online sessions. The training curriculum, developed by the National CASA Association and facilitated by our staff, includes seven sections that guide you through the role of the volunteer, the child welfare system, needs and development of children, trauma, mental health, poverty, professional communication, cultural competence, educational needs and permanency. All of these resources and tools will help prepare you to advocate for a child, or children, living in foster care.

Step 5: After a full training session of 30 hours is completed, and all of your paperwork is completed and cleared, you are sworn in as an official court advocate and will be assigned your first case.
